Write Your Character Piece! with Jon Bander
Saturday, October 27 | 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
This workshop will help students create character pieces for variety and/or full-length shows for festivals like the Edinburgh Fringe. We’ll focus not only on the game side of a character, but also on creating a believable, even lovable person through which to tell these awesome jokes. Students will bring in pre-written characters (or at least pitches) that will be fleshed out through in-class analysis and improv exercises focused on grounding, realism, and justification through emotion and point-of-view. Students will also view and discuss sketch/character examples and identify the grounding that makes them successful. If you want to build hilarious, realistic characters and start touring them, this is the class for you.
Jon Bander is an actor and comedian living in New York. He is a Character 101 teacher and member of house team Characters Welcome at UCBT.
