Comedy Camp for Teens - August 2024

5 days of action-packed training in improvisational theatre and comedy, just for teens!

Comedy Café Berlin and The CCB Training School are proud to offer training in our unique style of improvised comedy to teenagers. Over the course of 5 days, your teen will learn the basic skills every performer needs to get up on stage and make magic happen. We focus on making positive choices, developing confidence and stage skills, building group support and we’ll explore the kernels of what makes something funny.

The perfect opportunity for your teen to explore performing and the stage, whether they need a confidence boost or they’re already interested in performance and simply need an outlet, and everyone in between!

We’ll meet every day from 10am to 4pm with a one hour supervised lunch break (please provide a bagged/boxed lunch). The camp will conclude with a performance for family & friends at 4pm on Friday, August 23rd!

For teenagers age 12 to 16 years old. Teens should speak native or native-level English.

About the instructor

Noah Telson is a German-American comedian/actor/improviser. He is a founding member of GLB, Berlin’s premier long form improv group and was a member of ComedySportz Berlin for 8 years. In the fall of 2015, he opened Comedy Café Berlin, the city’s first international alternative comedy stage and improv school, an effort which has afforded him the title of “ye generous shepherd of improv teachers” by Will Hines himself. Hines has also named him in the acknowledgements section in both of his books (“How To Be The Greatest Improviser on Earth” and “Pirate Robot Ninja: An Improv Fable” co-written by Billy Merritt).

In addition to his comedic talents, Noah brings over a decade of experience working with children in camp environments. He has worked directly with children as a camp counselor and later managed counselors and directors as a program director, where he programmed and organized both day and overnight camps. As a program director, Noah has also worked closely with accredited social workers and teachers, to foster safe and enriching environments for young campers.

FAQS

Can I get a refund after registering?

No. Due to the administration and processing fees involved, we do not offer refunds once a registration has been purchased. In some circumstances, and with enough warning, we can offer vouchers in the amount of the registration fee. Please keep this in mind before registering!

Can we still register if my child will miss 1 or more days of camp?

Yes, but we recommend not missing the first day of camp.

My child is under 12 or over 16, can I still enroll them in the camp?

No. We are unable to accept any students under 12 or over 16 by the time the camp starts, even in the case of siblings or best friends. Thanks in advance for your understanding.

Is it possible for my child to purchase a lunch off-site?

Yes, with written permission from a parent or guardian, campers may purchase a takeout lunch nearby but will need to be capable of doing so on their own.
There are ample takeout restaurants nearby but most require crossing Sonnenallee.
For your child’s safety and to make things easier for us, we kindly request that campers purchasing meals off-site bring their lunch back to Comedy Café Berlin and eat on-site with the group.

Can parents/guardians participate in the camp or observe the camp?

No. We ask that parents/guardians leave the premises after camp starts each day. Performance skills, and improvisation in particular, require students – regardless of age – to build trust and support independently. Additionally, we believe that it’s important for young students to build their confidence on their own.

Why do I need to fill out an official permission of guardianship?

For all events taking place at Comedy Café Berlin and select advertised other venues, we require parents/guardians to fill out an Erziehungsbeauftragung (permission of guardianship) that gives the event instructor official guardianship of your child only during the event. This is required as per the Jugendschutzgesetz (youth protection law) for venues that operate as Gaststätte (bars/clubs) as underage youth are only allowed in under supervision of a guardian, even when the venue is closed as a bar/club.
